The Tawoos Initiative was founded in 2018 by three friends who went to the University of Toronto as international students. Coming together from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, a common desire to see more representation of folks who connected with us and our music taste led to the creation of a hub that does just that! With a wealth of experience between us, we have worked at the City of Toronto, Aga Khan Museum, The Music Galley, Uma Nota Culture, Harbourfront Centre, Canadian Opera Company and more - freelancing with partners such as Luminato, Small World Music, the Weengushk International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and the Hot Docs Film Festival to name a few. We have curated festivals, stages, concerts and workshops - ranging from intimate showcases for 25 people, to 3000 people. With our wealth of lived experience and academic knowledge in EDI, we are here to see what true representation can look like.
