LMNL (pronounced “liminal”) Festival Launches in Toronto This August

Toronto, ON – July 28, 2025

This August, The Tawoos Initiative proudly presents LMNL — a fully self-produced, Toronto-based electronic music festival celebrating innovation, cultural storytelling, and genre-blurring performances. The name LMNL embodies the festival’s ethos: a liminal space where identities, traditions, and sounds intersect.

Headliner Spotlight

  • Armana Khan (@armanakhanistan) – NYC-based DJ, model, and activist weaving tabla, bhangra, afrobeat, and techno into high-energy club sets. A rising force reshaping global Queer and South Asian club culture.
  • ARINEE (@arineeee) – Diasporic rhythms meet electronic textures through genre-fluid storytelling and magnetic performances.
  • Lyla (@mlylasaifi) – Karachi-bred producer blending emotion and rhythm into globally resonant electronic compositions.

Canadian Artist Features

LMNL also showcases homegrown talent including Dameer, Enchantika, Shaunt Raffi, Inawsh, and Malfnktion, with dynamic performances from dancer and drag artists Anoush Ellah and Idiz. These artists reflect Canada's diverse electronic scene, grounded in equity and cultural expression.

A curated vendor market will complement the performances, offering South Asian food, fashion, and artisanal crafts — creating an immersive, multisensory space.

ABOUT LMNL & THE TAWOOS INITIATIVE

Scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 3 PM – 11 PM at Standard Time (165 Geary Ave.), LMNL is more than a festival — it’s a movement. Presented by The Tawoos Initiative, the platform centers South Asian and diasporic artists through inclusive, genre-fluid programming.

Founded in 2018 at the University of Toronto, Tawoos bridges traditional South Asian music with contemporary global sounds through community-led events.

“We created LMNL to centre artists who exist between genres and identities. This is where their power lives. We have been created by community, for community — for those who live in the in-betweens of cultures, genres and generations.”
– Pratishtha Kohli, Artistic Director

The Tawoos Initiative is a genre-fluid platform that celebrates the richness and diversity of South Asian music in all its forms. By reimagining spaces that have historically centered Western musical traditions, Tawoos creates welcoming, inclusive environments where artists and audiences from all backgrounds can connect, express, and belong. It’s a movement toward expanding our collective understanding of what South Asian music can be—vibrant, boundaryless, and deeply rooted in both tradition and innovation.
